Networking by industry
Construction and infrastructure networking
Construction runs on relationships more visibly than almost any other sector, because who gets onto a tender list is decided by people who already know each other. The networking is not an adjunct to the business development, it largely is the business development.
How these rooms actually run
Early starts, regional rooms, and a hierarchy everyone in the room understands: client, main contractor, subcontractor, supplier. Conversation tends to be concrete and immediate, about live schemes, frameworks and prequalification rather than about strategy. Relationships are long and memories are longer, so one bad job follows you around a region for years.
What to do before you go
Work out where the people in the room sit in that hierarchy before you arrive, because the conversation you want with a main contractor is not the one you want with a fellow subcontractor. Knowing which schemes someone is on is worth more than any introduction you could prepare.
Rooms on The Gantry open 14 days ahead, and each attendee profile leads with what that person is working on now and what they will happily be asked about. On the free tier you see 30% of a room, which is enough to judge whether the mix matches the invitation; if an organiser has added you to their delegate list, all of it opens at no cost.
